Okay fags, here's the deal. I'm going to get the ball rolling by posting a few rapidshit/megaupload links here. The idea is that we keep this thread alive by posting either working links to albums on rapidshit/megaupload, links to working torrents, or requests for things. To make sure this works smoothly (and maybe brings a little more life back to the board in lieu of the wayward tracker), here are a few rules:

1. This thread is NOT for discussion. Every post must contain a link or a request. Please don't post just to say an album sucks, or you loved it, or whatever. There is no need for that.

2. Please do not request more than 3 bands at a time, and please do not request something multiple times. If you are filling a request, please indicate so in your post. Also, don't request a bunch of shit all the time and not contribute. It's a GREAT way to get ignored.

3. All links should be functional when they are posted, but no lifespan is promised. PM the OP of the link if it is dead or the url is incorrect.

4. If you are posting something that isn't requested or not by a major band, please indicate the genre of the release or at least try to describe it.

5. Please keep the links metal related. If this thread goes anywhere, someone else is more than welcome to start something similar for non-metal music in the appropriate forum.

6. This goes without saying, but please do not fill a request someone else has filled already.

7. PLEASE contribute to this. Anyone can do it. Winrar/Winzip/WinUHA all have free versions, and everyone who posts here has an internet connection. This is as close as we're going to get to a tracker (at least for a while), and last time i checked, Full Caliber was slow and full of shit no one wanted. I know the members here have discerning taste and large collections.

If we need to add other rules, i'll edit this post to reflect them.

PS: If you want to download more than one thing from Rapidshit at a time, consider using Tor. It's the largest and easiest to use Proxy service, so even though your downloads might be slow (pick a french or german server to alleviate this), you can get past the annoying download limit.

This album is remarkably well-produced, considering that it's a one-man effort. Also remarkable in that he has released all of his work on his website (down at the moment), and freely encourages people to download and share his stuff. Try this if you like Skepticism, Tyranny, Thergothon, etc.

When death metal was fizzling out, bands like Anathema and My Dying Bride took death metal and crossed it with old Candlemass and Sabbath records, creating what is inarguably a darker and moodier genre than the one preceding it. Absolutely an essential album.

This was Tiamat's third album, and is another important release for the genre, because it signified an important trend for many doom bands of the time. That trend, as we found out later, was to move into much more palatable music. This album is as light of a doom album as you will find, but at the same time, it still possesses many dark elements to it. It's actually, i want to say, influenced partially by Viking BM, also, based mostly on the frequent chorus chants and general riffing structure, which owes much to Bathory, Hellhammer, and their ilk.

Also, i just noticed the Up & Up thread, but since i've gotten underway into this, i'll consider this a "merzbow dumps whatever he wants to and you might learn something" thread. Thanks for contributing, and please, feel free to continue to do so :D

If you've ever read the liner notes to any album by your favorite sludge or drone bands (most funeral doom too), they always mention Thrones as an influence. Think of them as the drunken uncles of sludge. They didn't create it, but they certainly had a big influence on the genre. This album is a collection of their one-off tracks and b-sides shit, and i honestly think sometimes it's better than their serious albums. It's downright fuckin' creepy. I don't know much how to describe it, either, just suffice to say that it's like if an old Eyehategod record fucked a Melvins record in the Victorian era, and it got warped by centuries of disuse before you played it. Just check it out.

I haven't honestly listened to either of these since i got them a while ago, so i don't know if they are any good, but if i remember correctly, Bleeding is similar to Social Grace, and Dark Millenium is like a weird composite of tracks in the old PW style and a bunch of instrumental stuff, but i may be wrong.

This one's for the dronefags. Play this with either a good set of headphones or a very loud set of speakers with good bass to get the full effect. Wolfmangler is a neat blend of folk instruments and ethnic bullshit, and traditional drone. Moss are very much into the whole buzzing distortion thing, more similar to Sunn than Wolfmangler are. Both of these bands are pretty righteous, so i would strongly recommend any drone fans check this out.

Locust Leaves is a greek band of which one of my online friends is a member. He's never publically released any of this stuff, even though he's been sitting on some of this sort of stuff made by him for 10+ years. It contains six tracks of varying lengths, all with a doom/death sound. It's really very good, interesting music, so if you like this sort of thing, please check it out.

It's a decent album. It gets a little repetitive after a while (seems to be a theme with japanese death metal), but it's got some pretty sick riffs that make you wanna throw some horns. Plus one point for appropriate use of pinch harmonics.


Witchfinder general fizzled, RWID, so i am re-upping it. Sorry about that.

Brilliant local grind band (Baltimore, MD) that once featured Maudlin of the Well's old rhythm guitarist. He is featured on these two albums but has since departed. They are very raw, but intelligent, with some ambient spaces crammed between spastic hell-grind moments of pure, underproduced fury. Blake, the original vocalist, has just left to join Pig Destroyer, though his role with the band is electronics, at the moment.
The split has awful sound quality (Medic are an extremely distorted stoner rock band from DC, they like it that way) but is included because of the awesome Bauhaus cover. Keep an eye on these guys, they are certainly an interesting band, and the first one outside of Darkest Hour that i am proud to say have come from my area.

Both of these bands have a very heavy riffing style the drums are high in the mix and thus create a very brutal atmosphere dvorhead are french so you can't go wrong with them, I don't know a single death metal band from france that i've heard and have disliked. Dvor are no exception.

Infected malignity are similar but japanese, I feel the grindcore in their music, they have a tendency to slow down the music to a funeral doom pace and then come back swinging.

The most interesting part about this album, i think, is that he doesn't even really swear until the final ten minutes or so. That seems completely insane considering his latest material. He's the godfather of stand-up comedy, and this album is one of the reasons why.

One of my favorite comedians, easily. He's another guy known for the anger and venom he can spew out on stage, but i met him in person, and he is one of th warmest (and biggest, he's the size of a fucking bear) individuals i have ever met. This is his latest offering, containing a shitload of new material, and a few classic bits at a completely packed, full-sized opera house, which is one step short of selling out an entire outdoor arena. Pretty big deal for stand-up.

The host of Insomniac (those outside of the USA probably won't know what this is) on his first full-length, circa 1998 if i am not mistaken. He's been doing stand-up for over 15 years, time that he used to master the art of the one-liner. He's one of those comedians whose material you can quote around your buddies and everyone gets the reference, even if you don't finish the joke, because his material is really that unique.

You've seen Patton on TV before, notably as the friend of Doug on The King of Queens. The show is a fucking abortion from the womb of comedy, which is weird, considering that the main cast is composed entirely of win and awesome, but his stand-up is something way better. This is his second (iirc) album, and holy shit, it kills. I laughed very, very hard during some of these lines, especially during The Best Baby in the Universe, among others. If you don't get anything else on this list, download this one.
