Sludge/grind was really pushing it. Mathcore would be more approximate, IMO. It was nice, yeah, but not that memorable. And wasn't this supposed to be only about metal? 'Cause there are lots of non-metal awesome stuff I'd like to share with you guys. |

Well, since this isnt the first time thats been asked. Ill go ahead and explain my reasons for disliking The Divinity of Oceans. The album is supposed to be a concept album for the Whale-ship Essex, which had been attacked by a sperm whale, resulting in the ship sinking, leaving everyone on the ship stranded on a raft to resort to cannibalism. Good concept, poor execution... This is not without reason. Before the release of the album Ahab had stated they wrote the songs to be listenable to both the Funeral Doom crowd and those not familiar or fans of the genre. To me, this is why the album just seems like Ahab was numbing their style. It lacked power or all purpose for that matter. The album seems to pretty and hopeful at times to allow the listener even feel saddened. Clean vocals are used Excessively, and to me they do not evoke dispair or helplessness, they are rather soothing and restrained, opposed to them being Thunderous and epic (which I dont mind, just not in Funeral Doom). The Growls seem to forced at times. Alas! A bright spot, well a semi bright spot, the interlude in "Tombstone Carousel" is a beautiful one that takes the listener into the depths of the sea with melodies reminiscent to an aquatic sound. (think Zoras Domain from Zelda). Yet, a nice composition, this is where Ahab once again flounders. This should not be beautiful, these fuckers are stranded on a raft starving to death entertaining the thoughts of cannabilism. That could only be beautiful for the likes of Ed Gein or Albert Fish. Les we forget this is supposed to be Funeral Doom. I am not however, completely opposed to this album. This is just a big step back for Ahab in my opinion. I cannot speak for everyone else as to why they dont like it, those are just my thoughts. |

Christ, the whole Ahab thing again. Please god help us. Anyways, will check the Strid. I have a particular soft spot for DSBM. Come to think of it though, who doesn't? I mean, my girlfriend even fucking loves DSBM and doesn't even like metal. She hates everytime I put on music until I throw on Cragataska or Make A Change... or Drained or something. It's weird, I can't really explain the effect DSBM has on people |

Hello General-Torrents, I am back. Lets try to talk about some metal, rather than if it's more effective to stand or sit while wiping your ass. Im going to be honest with you Atra because we are friends. This album fucking sucks, it sucking fucks, its a piece of shit, and I dont like it. But sadly, I think thats the point. I think this one man band is trying to rebel and be kvlt so hard that he purposley churns out shit to prove how fucking grim he really is. I wouldn't waste my time hitting the download button. sorry. |

I can't find an album cover for this, but y'all niggas should check out Xeper. Awesome vocals, cool mid-paced sludge, and enough variation to keep the whole album interesting. Maybe it's just me, but I really like the album. :S http://sludgeswamp.blogspot.com/2007...ed-sludge.html Decent enough review and a working link. |

I don't know if I've evinced my love for Castevet's Mounds of Ash on the forum, yet. If not, fucking check this shit out! Link Awesome black metal with a fitting hardcore touch, topped off with the Profound Lore touch (you know you like it, Levi!). On the topic of USBM, I don't think I've seen anyone here talk about Woe's A Spell for the Death of Man. It's a really good album, and the new one comes out this year. Profound Lore has become quite dull and predictable. Will check it out though, since you back it up. EDIT: Aw fuck, I remember that album cover, it's been mentioned quite a few times in the best group on last.fm. A link for it would have been nice. Last edited by Leviathan; 07-30-2010 at 07:00 PM. |

Holy shit I never even realized it was out already, going to get a hold of it and I will let you know. I just bought The Ghost of Heritage yesterday at a used CD store in Toronto. The question is, what did YOU think of it? (I have been away from this site for far to long. I hope my lack of a presence has gone recognized, because I really want to feel all warm and happy inside.) |

Well, fuck. We don't have a thread about classic albums, so I guess I'll talk about it here. ![]() This is Trist's Sebevražední Andělé. It's only two medium-sized (~20 minute) songs, but this is my favorite DSBM album of all time. Part I is much, much better than Part II, but that's hardly a fair comparison. Part I is almost certainly my favorite song right now (and for the past few months). It's repetitive, "hypnotic" black metal at its best. If you have any interest in DSBM (or atmospheric black metal in general), I would recommend at least trying this album. If you don't like the first minute, you won't like the next 20, so you don't have much to lose. You have the pinnacle of black metal to gain, however. I know it sounds like I'm exaggerating. A lot of people say "this is my favorite shit." I promise you I'm being 100% sincere when I say that Part I is my favorite song of all time. The production is fantastically murky (not in a bad way, it's murky because of excessive reverb), the structure is trance-inducingly simplistic. I stopped half-way into that sentence because, seriously, fuck it. You'll either listen to it or you won't. Please do. Edit: If you didn't notice, the album cover is a link to the album. Seriously, I wish I could put into words how great this album is. I really do. I'm not very convincing and I don't have the best taste, so feedback would be nice if you like it. Encourage others to listen to it. ![]() Last edited by Arch3nemy; 08-10-2010 at 10:45 PM. Reason: "We don't have about classic albums" Hahahahahaha. |

Here's a link to one of Lordamor's songs, lost my torrent for the album though. |

I now know how people feel when they write terrible, cliched reviews. I know I'm bad with words and that's the least encouraging review ever, but fucking check that shit out. :S Edit: It kind of looks like I misinterpreted your message as mocking. I didn't, I just reread what I wrote and it's awful. ![]() |

Oh boy. Sorry I'm late, but I've seen not one but two people in this thread praise Ahab's "other" album. Here it goes: May your testicles rot off, your asshair be forever twisted up and full of tp you can never get out, may you always have the taste of bile and semen in the back of you throat, and may you perpertually have a huge black cock slapping you in the face. Piss off. You should have never been born. (as vile as this is, it still doesn't make up for the fact I liked the album at one time). But I wasn't even paying attention, so that makes you guys the biggest assholes here, and not me! Kooky! Now go eat goat dung and drink your mother's urine. Good thing Ed's google results caught my short attention, or I'd never got the chance to call ya'll a bloody tampon string. Last edited by Orcus; 08-20-2010 at 05:49 AM. |

Meh, I've still got unresolved issues of shame and regret for even downloading it to my walkman. On the upside, I rarely have anything better to do than to insult people to make myself feel better. Let us never speak of that "album" again, lest so much profanity insues as to make us all go into convulsive seizures. Just call me a zealous crusader in the fight against the auditory abortion that is Divinity of Oceans. If I flame enough, maybe I can redeem myself and gain the esteem of my peers here (hey, it's worth a shot, but I doubt I've had the esteem of anyone here, lol) |
